Things you may or may not have noticed about me!

So just for something a bit fun, I thought I would do a blog post about some of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer!

1. For those of you who have worked with me, you will know this already, for those of you who have yet to have your wedding, be prepared! I get abnormally excited over very low, yellowy orange light. Like crazy excited!! Like, I will jump around like a nutter because it all just looks incredibly amazing and I will more than likely make you 5 minutes late for the reception as it is just too amazing to not have you pose under. Especially if it is glowing behind trees or creating the most spectacular flare imaginable!

2. I love and thrive on unusual weather circumstances! Be it fog, torrential rain, bushfire smoke... I love it! And I will more than likely jump around like a nutter as in point 1.

3. One of my favourite moments to photograph at a wedding is the look on the grooms face the first moment he sees his bride. It makes my heart sing!

4. I love unusual locations! Give me weird backgrounds that might be as simple as a cool door (I do have a bit of a door obsession, people who follow my instagram may have noticed this), or a shed that is completely rotting away, abandoned houses, a saw mill or even loaded coal trains!

5. Part and Parcel with point 4, I'm a country girl at heart, so I can't think of too many weddings I have shot where my couples haven't ended up in a paddock or on a dirt road. No matter where we are, I will find one! We could be in the heart of Newcastle and I will find one! And the dustier the better! Mind you I have an excellent track record of bringing brides back to the reception with minimal dust and grass attached to their gowns despite some of the locations. Although, grasshoppers stuck in tulle is quite common!

6. I will climb on things, anything, to get the ideal shot. I may even climb under things. I have been know to hang out of trees, on wine barrels, fences and even lay under aircraft and down hills in a pig pen. Those of you who know me well enough know that I hate pants. Im a dress and skirt girl through and through. This does mean I have had my fair share of climbing on things becoming a removal exercise as my skirt may have got stuck to a barbed wire fence. Im used to it. If I have worn or do wear pants to your wedding, feel very privileged as it is a very rare sight to see!

7. The daddy daughter dance. Another of my favourite wedding moments. I have to try hard to not cry watching the fathers dancing with their little girl. Always makes me think of the proud look my dad gave me on my wedding day, so its very hard to keep a dry eye in that moment.

8. Im a rockabilly girl, and live dressed as though I am living in the 50s, so Im am very passionate about Rockabilly and Vintage weddings. Give me country rock and roll music, swirling petticoats, birdcage veils, hessian, lace, quirky stuff and I will be in my absolute element!

9. I love my props, which works well, because most of you lovely couples out there love my props too! The most popular requests I receive are picnic blankets and suitcases. But keep in mind, almost every decoration etc you see in our house/studio doubles as a prop. So if you see a vase or 50s radio or anything you want me to bring to your wedding, I can do it!

10. Love! The main reason I love being a wedding Photographer is because I love celebrating love! I feel honoured to have been chosen to share in the love of so many couples over the years it makes my heart sing! A lot of people don't know I do shoot other genres, but my heart is in weddings, so that is where I devote all my time and energy, as I love celebrating your love!

11. I may have a slight wedding gown obsession... Often people don't realise, as they see me doing crazy trash the dress sessions with couples throwing paint etc, but I have a wardrobe with 39 (and growing) wedding gowns in varying styles, sizes and colours that brides can hire from me to trash if they want to do something crazy and don't want to trash their own. These also double as fun dress ups when my girlfreinds come around! hehehe!

12. I love having a bit of a dance before I leave the reception. I will often be seen in a corner somewhere busting out a move, or in some cases, gangnam styling or dancing with a guest. I try not to be too embarrassing!

13. It has always been a tradition of us here at CCP to crash your photo booth. So beware, when you are flipping through your photobooth strip book after the reception, so where in there will be a crazy photo of me with a lovely message for you (usually with a little vintage camera drawn next to it). I have a scrap book here in the studio of photo booth strips from all the beautiful weddings I have been a part of. I love flicking through it and remembering the fun I had that day!

14. I like good challenge! Never throw out the "you won't get every guest that is here into one photo, especially in a straight line" challenge. I wont let it beat me!

15. I am absolutely convinced I get to work with the best couples in the world! You guys come to me, run with my crazy ideas and locations and become friends! I seriously have the best job in the world, and you guys are the ones that make me love what I do!

So theres a bit more about me and what makes me tick! If I think of more, I'll post another blog in the future. Hopefully you have a better understanding now of the quirkyness that is Candice!

Raindrops, sparklers and a giant chess board

2013 for us went out with an absolute bang at Brittany and Sheldon's wedding! Their big day was held at the ever stunning Terrara House Estate in Nowra. And this venue had everything! Seriously! It even had a jar of lollies in the bathroom and hairspray to fix yourself up... How cool is that!!

Merindah and I started our morning in Nowra with a nice brekky and a bit of sight seeing. Once we had seen all we could, we figured we would go for a quick drive over to the estate and pay Brittany and Sheldon a morning visit, see how the nerves were going and suss out our plan of attack for the portrait session. It was an overcast morning, and all eyes were watching the clouds to see if the decision to move the ceremony inside was needed. When we arrived back to shoot later in the afternoon, the decision had been made. it had started to rain, so the choice was to move the ceremony onto the beautiful staircase on the verandah of the house. The girls were getting ready in the most beautiful room with the most perfect light to work with. The walls were a diffused glass, so the room acted like one giant soft box! It was fabulous to shoot in!

The ceremony took place on the beautiful staircase, surrounded by flowers and with a huge crystal chandelier hanging above them. It was just magic! After the ceremony, we made our way around the property to do some portraits. First stop was a swing made famous by a Nicole Kidman ad for Swisse, the driveway with its purple and white flowers and towering trees was the next backdrop. I could've kept shooting around the estate forever!

The reception was held in a huge white marquee dotted with flowers and uplighting. Just stunning! After all the formalities had finished, the rain kept beating down, but we decided that it would be perfect for some night time portraits around the property. There was a giant chess board with lanterns above it, and the light reflecting on its shiny surface was just too good an opportunity to pass up! Brittany and Sheldon was such troopers posing in the rain. Brittany's train needed a good wring out by the end of it though! Once all the cards had been filled, we had a dance and a little daiquiri with the bridal party on the dance floor and enjoyed our last moments of the final wedding of the year, before packing up our gear and making our way back to the hotel.

A huge thank you to Brittany and Sheldon for not only being huge troopers posing in the rain, but for allowing us to come all the way down to Nowra to share your day with you! It was a blast! And the daquiris were delicious ;-) You were a fantastic couple to work with and made our last wedding of the year end with a bang!
