CANDICE KING
A little about yourself:
I see myself as somewhat of an eclectic mix. I’m a 50s girl who loves to throw her old beaten up pointe shoes on and dance in the kitchen, has an obsession with aviation, abandoned buildings and anything vintage. I’m forever looking at the world as though I have a camera attached to my face and I enjoy painting realist portraits.
Education:
I attended Avondale college where completed my bachelor of teaching and my bachelor of fine arts before starting up Candice Campbell Photography.
What did you want to be when you grew up:
I wanted to be two things, one, a ballerina. I spent so much of my childhood and teenage years doing quite extensive ballet training and I was convinced I would dance with the Australian Ballet. Second (though a much younger dream), I wanted to be a tight rope walker.
How long have you been interested in photography:
I’ve been interested in photography since I was young. Though at that stage I only had a point and shoot film camera. Didn’t stop me from attempting to do photoshoots though. Oh the excitedment of waiting for those photos to come back developed.
Where is your favourite location to shoot:
Too many to list. Though I must say, my favourites are generally anything country and quirky. At the moment I have an obsession with wanting to shoot in the snow and the desert!
Why did you chose photography:
I see the world through colours, shapes and compositions and have a constant desire to replicate what I see so it can forever be remembered. Be it through painting or photography. The colours and emotions of the world are so rich and amazing and they need to be captured.
Favourite thing to photograph:
My favourite thing to photograph, without a doubt is weddings and couples in love. I don’t think its possible for me to see and landscape without imagining a bride and groom in it!
What was your first "proper" camera:
While I was in the early years of my degree I hired old Canon 300 film cameras and then made the switch to the Canon 350D while saving up to buy my first SLR, the Canon 450D before moving on to the Canon 5D MkII.
